Hey all,
What programs would you recommend for burning bootable ISO images to CD-RW? When I tried using InfraRecorder, a free, open-source CD burner, the CD I was able to generate won't boot--methinks that the app corrupted the bootloader or the boot.cat file, since the MD5 checksum is correct on the downloaded ISO. Also, where can I find copies of the apps you all recommend?
Thanks,
Tyler
sadly, i'd suggest nero, it's the best i've come acrossed so far. sadly, it's not free, as we all know. think the trial allows you to burn iso images though.
I tried Nero 9 Free Version, didn't get its layout. I don't think it was all that accessible, but maybe that's because I only tried the free, pared-down version.
I use roxio
When I purchased a dell laptop, they gave me an unrestricted copy. Which is to say, one does not need a dell modified windows os to install it in as they do many times with others.
There are however, other means of obtaining the software you need. But, I am not condoning those methods.
I haven't used it before, but I understand cdburnxp is a free software that does burning. Whether it does isos or not, I don't know. try download.com and search for iso burning and see if you can't get a trial that will do what you want for a bit.
Nero 9 is pretty bad, 8 is ok, 7 is best if you can still find it anyware
I'd say use burn CD CC. Search it on google.
The ISO needs to be bootable, because it's a Vinux Live CD. Does that change the recommendations at all?
roxio makes bootables.
I make acronis bootables all the time with it.
oh and roxio is totally accessible with as nero is not quite.
shrug, at least nero 6 wasn't
Which version of Roxio do you use, Skpoet? I'm trying to figure out how to make a bootable with Nero 7 Ultra, which is pretty accessible.
I use roxio version 3.0
Truth is, since it was dell's I don't know what the proper OEM version would be.
No, it won't make a difference, as long as your bios are set up right, you'll be fine.
Cdburner XP makes bootable CDS, but its not the easyest thing to do, Magic ISO also does, but that cost $29, compared to CD Burner XP, CDBurner XP is free though. And Nero is bad now, Roxio is still good. Magic Iso is pretty accessible as well.
I have one here a friend sent me, works very well, and is fast too. you'd have to contact me via skype or msn if you wanted it though as i don't know where my friend found it. it's free by the way
I kno its a bump, but just use burncdcc. Why bother with nero? Burncdcc is free, lightweight and just works.
exactly. Or, get a program that will extract the iso onto a jump drive? that's how I'm messing with ubuntu.
But that'd involve messing with the boot order and my BIOS doesn't talk. I'd like to be able to change the CMOS settings from within Windows if at all possible, but I don't think there're any accessible apps that would let me do that. And I'd be OK with command-line apps as well.
